Description
If you saw the movie "King Kong" (either version), you know this is the building the friendly great ape climbed in his final moments. Sorry, didn't mean to get sad. The 1,453-foot tall Empire State Building is one of the most famous landmarks.of New York City and, although it's no longer among the tallest buildings in the world, it's still a wonderful spot from which to see Manhattan and its surroundings. Did you know the spire was designed as an anchorage for dirigibles but after the first attempts at docking one there were endangered by the wind, the idea was abandoned. Too bad, because how great would it be to arrive in New York by climbing out of an airship high above Fifth Avenue and 34th Street?

Don, nice one! I always look to see if you post new photos! I love me some New York City photos! Did the ol' F&A...Also like the background story on the Empire State Building..

Hi ya, Kym! I do appreciate anytime you stop by. Re the background story, I see many photos on FAA that would be nicer IMHO with a caption, if only to share some facts with the viewer. For that reason I do try to say something at least partway informational. Of course with a subject such as the Empire State Bldg, one could write for a week and not repeat anything.
